Hello, and thank you for visiting the AccuTOPO Website. This app allows you to:
1. Obtain your approximate present position, complete with approximate street address (if available), and display that position on a map.
2. Display approximate elevation above sea level for your approximate present position based on US Geological Survey (USGS) data within the U.S., or Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) elevation data from geonames.org for overseas locations (this feature valid between 56°S and 60°N latitude)
3. Tap a location on the map and display the aforementioned data.
4. Provide direct access to our Find Elev Web app (http://www.homedatasheet.com/click.php) which, among other features, displays your position on a Google terrain (topo) map.
AccuTOPO obtains your position upon startup, and whenever you touch the "Locate" button (the left-hand button on the bottom toolbar). It will not continuously update. Your position will be marked with a red pin.
Once the red pin is displayed, you may single-tap anywhere on the map to obtain information for the that location.
Just like the built-in Google Maps app on your iPhone or iPod Touch, you may pan the map by dragging with one finger, and zoom-in by double-tapping. However, to zoom-out you must press the "Zoom(-)" button, and pinch-zooming gestures will have no effect.
The other buttons on the toolbar allow you to instantly switch the readout between metric and English units and between decimal degrees and degrees-minutes-seconds, switch map type between traditional street map and street map/aerial photo hybrid, and call up the Find Elev Web app ("Topo" button).
AccuTOPO cannot operate fully without connection to the Internet. If you lose your Internet connection, it will not be possible to obtain address or elevation data. If the geocoder fails, a warning will be displayed. In remote areas, the geocoder may not provide data. Should this situation occur, try touching the "Topo" button to activate Find Elev.
If the elevation service fails, it will typically display a "0" elevation.
Your privacy: It is entirely possible that your Internet Protocol (IP) address, along with the geographic positions you occupy and the points you tap will be recorded on the server logs at Google, USGS, and geonames.org. homedatasheet.com, Inc. is not affiliated with any of the aforementioned organizations, so you will have to visit www.google.com/privacypolicy.html and www.usgs.gov/laws/privacy.html to review their privacy policies. In addition, points in the Find Elev (Topo) view, along with your IP address may be recorded on the homedatasheet.com, Inc. server log. Our privacy policy may be found at homedatasheet.com/privacy
AccuTOPO is not intended as a substitute for a local map, a dedicated GPS receiver, a magnetic compass, or a local guide when traveling. It should never be your sole means of geo-location, navigation, or elevation measurement.
